Daan Spijer

Daan has been teaching in some form or other for most of his adult life and was already teaching music during his teens. He has tutored high school students in English Expression and Comprehension and in Creative Writing. He speaks three foreign languages and has a thorough understanding of English Grammar.

Daan taught at the CAE for more than fourteen years and has taught at other institutions and run workshops at LaTrobe University.

He has been writing for more than thirty years and in the past three years has won awards or been short-listed for awards on fifteen occasions. This has been for short stories, poetry, essays and plays. One of his plays will performed in July 2008.

Daan currently has two young adult novels, two children's picture books and a non-fiction book with publishers for consideration. He regularly had his thought-provoking essays published in a medical journal for five years.

Daan is also a qualified lawyer and has tutored in Legal Studies for VCE as well as in SOSE.

His background also includes working as a social worker in residential care in London and as a psychotherapist throughout the 1980s. From mid-1996 until mid-2007, Daan was CEO at a medical college.

Daan Spijer has a current National Police Certificate.
